Welcome to Herts
Hertfordshire is located just to the north of London. It also borders the counties of Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex. Nearly two thirds of Hertfordshire's rural area is designated Green Belt. Picturesque woodland, river valleys, and open farmland make up a beautiful landscape.
Hertfordshire has about one million residents who live in small to medium sized towns and a large number of scattered villages. The county¡¯s towns mix the ancient and historic with New Towns and Garden Cities./
The highest point in the county is 803 feet (245 m) above sea level, a quarter mile (400 m) from the village of Hastoe near Tring. The county motto, is "Trust and fear not". As part of a 2002 marketing campaign, the plant conservation charity Plantlife chose the Pasqueflower as Hertfordshire's county flower.
